Engineering

Nothing between you and the road.

A direct-drive wheel, a load-cell brake and a carbon chassis that moves less than a tenth of a millimetre under full braking.

Racing drivers train on simulators between races. This one is built the way theirs are.

Then it is finished in carbon, aluminium and Alcantara, and installed in a single day by our own technicians.

Design

Every side, finished.

Most rigs are built to be seen from the seat. This one is finished on every side, down to the cable runs.

Under the skin

Direct-drive wheel base

32 Nm

Direct drive.

The wheel sits on the motor's own shaft. No belt and no gears, so every ripple in the tarmac reaches your hands.

The direct-drive motor behind the wheel, machined aluminium with cooling ribs

Load-cell pedals

150 kg

Load-cell brake.

The pedal measures how hard you press, not how far it travels, so your foot learns the braking point it uses on track.

The pedal box: three milled aluminium pedals with hydraulic cylinders

Carbon chassis

0.1 mm

One carbon shell.

Under full braking the chassis moves less than a tenth of a millimetre. What you feel is the car, never the rig.

At home

Built for the room you come home to.

Measured for your room and installed in a day, with every cable hidden. Switched off, it sits there like furniture.

Into the seat

The driver's view: the wheel, and on the curved display a sunlit harbour street circuit, barriers, yachts and a bell tower, rushing past
  1. Sit low.
  2. Hands at nine and three.
  3. Lights out.

On the display

Tonight's circuit.

Five AFTERHOURS circuits, from a mountain pass in the morning to a harbour after dark. The curved display wraps each one around you.

Craft

Three materials. Nothing plastic you touch.

  • Satin carbon fibre on a chamfered panel edge, a red light along the cut-out and a Torx screw

    2 × 2

Twill carbon fibre, laid by hand and cured under pressure.

  • Brushed aluminium monitor mount on a slotted upright, a braided cable clipped beside it

    Billet

Aluminium, extruded for the frame and milled from solid for every bracket.

  • Black Alcantara with Afterhours stitched in red script along the seam

    One thread

Alcantara, with the name sewn along every seam in Racing Red.

  • In the AFTERHOURS workshop, an engineer holds up a carbon panel while she is interviewed and photographed; wheels and pedal sets on the shelves behind her

    By hand

Every shell is laid up, trimmed and checked by the people who build it, in our workshop.

The people

Built by day. Raced after hours.

One workshop builds every AH-01. When the doors close, the same people race them.

Where it started

A sketchbook, an old wheel and a workbench.

The first AFTERHOURS cockpit was sketched, built on a garage floor, and tested in a paddock garage before it had a name.

  • A garage workshop at night: two of the team build the first bare aluminium cockpit frame on the floor, sketches and the AH AFTERHOURS banner on the wall behind them

  • A workbench by a window: a brushed-steel trophy in the shape of the AH monogram on a black stone base, old black-and-white photos of the workshop, a worn suede steering wheel and an open sketchbook of cockpit drawings

From the archive: the first sketches, the wheel from the prototype, and the trophy.

Questions

Before you order

How much space does the AH-01 need?

The cockpit itself is 2.0 × 0.9 m. Allow about 2.6 × 1.6 m so you can step in and out comfortably, and 2.2 m of ceiling height for the display. We measure the room at your consultation.

What does it need to run?

One standard household socket and a gaming PC. You can bring your own, or we specify one and hide it inside the chassis.

Which racing simulators does it work with?

Any PC simulator that supports direct-drive wheels and load-cell pedals, including iRacing, Assetto Corsa Competizione and rFactor 2.

How long from order to installation?

About 14 weeks from your signed specification. Your build slot is reserved at the consultation.

Can I see one before I order?

Yes. Book a consultation and we'll arrange a private viewing, or bring samples of every finish to you.

What does the warranty cover?

Three years on the chassis, the direct-drive base, the pedals and the display mount, with a service visit every year.
